Yes folks, there’s another name change at the comer of Southwest 12th Avenue and Washington Street in downtown Portland. The wannabe gay bar, now under partial ownership of Hamburger Mary’s, is sporting a new name, new look and new attitude. The new decor could be described as a blend of World War II and Polyne sian styles, with thatched roofs, by oversize teak-like Marty Davis bar stools and cam- ouflage-draped employees. The big draw for many will be Frontline’s nonsmoking section in its main bar area. The more traditional smoking portion of the bar is room for growth and expansion of her book keeping and tax-service biz. atch for changes and new faces in the 2400 block of Northeast Broadway. Gary Brown has moved his Alameda Orchids from the comer space at Northeast 24th Avenue and Broadway to the Pearl Dis trict. He can now be found at 404 N.W. 12th Ave. in Portland. His unique shop has a single focus on the tropical orchid, with many different varieties, styles and colors available. In the space previously occupied by Alame da Orchids you’ll now find Ponte Vecchio. Owned by partners Mario de’Medici and Steve Patronsky, this 1000-square-foot shop features home and garden decor items, furniture, candles and an unusual line of antique repro duction cabinets and armoires imported from Indonesia. In Italian, ponte vecchio means "old bridge," and in this case it specifically refers to the famous bridge in Florence that links the two palaces of the de'Medici family. All in all, the name conjures a more upscale vision than oh, say, Steve and Mario's Store. o f Service to Our Comm umtu Pictured , left to right: lop row: Deborah Betron. Charis Palmer.
