The foundation raises its money through sale of The AIDS Bracelet, a 1/4 inch cuff bracelet reminiscent of the POW/MIA braclets worn dur ing the Vietnam era. The bracelet, which features Gay and lesbian doctors to meet Here's yo u r opportunity to improve foreign relations. Gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered phy sicians will gather in Montreal, Canada, this month for the 14th Annual Symposium of the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association. The event will take place Aug. 22-24 at the Queen Eliza beth Hotel. The theme for this year’s gather ing is Focus on the Positive. Presenta tions on each of the three days will fo cus on a different aspect of Positive Living. The Sym posium will feature a mix of panel pre sentations, lectures, small group discussions and facilitated common-issue caucuses. It is open to p h y sician s, m edical students and health policymakers with an interest in lesbian and gay health and well-being. The GLMA Achievement Awards will be presented at the annual banquet. Recipients are honored for their commitment to improving the lives of gay people. This year awards will be given to Kevin Speight, a Halifax medical stu- dent who created the “glb-medical”online dis cussion group; Tom Stoddard, the former direc tor of Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund; Scott Hitt, M.D., chair of President Clinton’s Advisory Council on AIDS; and the ownersof Vancouver, B.C.s’ Little Sisters Book store, who have fought a long and expensive battle to allow Canadians legal access to im ported gay literature. Queer GOP group meets in San Diego The Log Cabin Republicans,will hold its sixth an nual convention Aug. 9-11 in San Diego. The orga nization of gay and lesbian R epubli cans will finish their meeting just in tim e for the opening day of the Republican National Conven tion, which will also be held in San Diego. The keynote address at the Log Cabin conven tion will be delivered jointly by Rep. Steve Gunderson (R-Wisc.) and his partner, Rob Morris. The two men will discuss House and Home, their S um m ertim e L n k x t (5 0 3 ) 2 2 4 -3 9 0 0 a small raised AIDS ribbon, is sold at major retailers throughout the country. Recipients of this year’s grants were the Na tional AIDS Fund and the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative. The National AIDS Fund used its grant to fund the White House report “ Youth and HIV/AIDS: An American Agenda. The sec ond grant helped to finance the preliminary meet ings of the World AIDS Vaccine Initiative. Founded in 1992 by two women after their best friend died of AIDS, the Until There ’sA Cure Foundation has donated over $750,000 to HIV/ AIDS groups and vaccine development efforts.
