LOOKING FOR A GOOD T IM E ?
Before you decide he’s the one:
• Get the boy's name.
• Chat him up. No need to interrogate the man you're
bringing home, just find out a little bit about him: Where
he works or goes to school, where he lives, what he likes
and doesn't lik e ...
• Be proud of your catch. Show him off. Introduce him
to your friends, acquaintances, the bartender.
• Remember, alcohol and drugs cloud judgment. Alter
nate alcoholic drinks with water or soda. Think! Stay sober
enough to stay alert and safe.
• Last dance? Last chance? Don't let desperation rule
your night. If you leave with someone, make sure he
knows you've told a friend that you are leaving with him.
• My place? Your place? Where does he live? If you go
to his place, make sure you know how to get home and
have money to get there. Go where you feel safer.
• Trust your instincts. If something feels even a little off
with this guy, move on. It will happen again— tonight or
another night. If you feel uncomfortable later on, leave. If
he's at your place and won't leave, go to a neighbor's or
a pay phone and call the police.
• Paying for it? Consider looking for someone at a bar
(ask the bartender about him) or through an ad, rather
than on the street. Either way, have a drink or coffee at a
public place first. Check him out! Make sure the terms are
dear. Picking up hustlers is risky. Be careful.
• Get help if you need it. If there is an immediate
threat, or if you are hurt, call 9-1 -1. The Lesbian Commu
nity Project's Anti-Violence Line, 1 -800-796-1703, serves
both men and women.
Give a little help to your friends. Help protect yourself,
your friends and your community.
