Drag alfresco: Peacock in the Park, which was held June 25 in the Washington Park Amphitheater, is a variety show
created in 1987by Elwood “ Woody ” Johnson, also known as hisfabulous drag alter ego Lady Elaine Peacock. Proceeds
from the annual event benefit the Audria M. Edwards Scholarship Fund, named fo r Johnson s mother. Over the years
the fu n d has given thousands o f dollars toward continuing education fo r young people. Johnson died in October 1993
from complications o f AIDS.
