I M S T 21 A cavalcade of events celebrate 1995 Portland Lesbian and Gay Pride T hrough J une 30 — G ay and Lesbian Archives o f the Pacific N orthw est sponsors a display at B order’s Books and M usic, 708 SW Third Ave. in Portland. The display, titled “H idden History, Se cret Lives: Images o f G ay and Lesbian Life in Oregon, 1900-1975,” is a 10-panel exhibit o f pho tographs and docum ents collected by GLAPN. Call 220-5911 for store hours. “Lesbian V isibility,” a m ultidiscipline art show featuring the work o f 18 local artists, can be seen 24 hours a day at the Justice C enter w indow gallery, Southw est Second Avenue at M adison Street in Portland, through June 30. J une 16— KBOO 90.7 FM airs interview s and com m entary on the eve o f Pride Day from 9 am to 1 pm, with host Linda Shirley. The Lesbian Avengers sponsor a D yke M arch. Participants are asked to assem ble at 6:30 pm at the North Park Blocks in Portland. T he m arch begins at 7:30 pm, with the route to be determ ined. Pride Northw est kicks o ff Pride w eekend with a Luau and Dance Party from 5 pm to 11:30 pm at W aterfront Park, Southw est Front A venue and Colum bia Street, in Portland. T he luau is free and will feature live entertainm ent, follow ed by a dance party D J’d by Mel Shapiro. H aw aiian-style food, beverages and beer will be available for purchase. All ages welcome. J une 17 — The First U nitarian Church in Port land hosts a service designed to provide a spiritual focus for sexual m inorities and their supporters. The Rev. Roy A. Cole, pastor o f Portland’s M etro politan C om m unity Church, will deliver the ser mon. The service, which is w heelchair accessible and will be interpreted for the hearing im paired, will be held from 9 to 10 am. The church is located at the com er o f Southwest 12 th A venue and Salmon Street. The 20th Annual Lesbian and Gay Pride Pa rade, Rally and Festival kicks o ff at 11 am at the North Park Blocks in Portland. Pride Northwest, the sponsor o f the event, asks parade participants to arrive at least an hour earlier. The grand m arshals for the parade are Bruce Am sbary o f B end’s Be- yond The Closet, a group that prom otes diversity and understanding via com m unity events, and LaV em e Lewis, executive director o f the Lesbian Com m unity Project, which provides services to O regon’s lesbian com m unity. Parade route is approximately 1.75 miles. rally and festival at W aterfront Park, Southwest Front Avenue at Columbia Street. An estimated 15,000 are expected to attend the rally. The Lesbian Community Project is sponsoring its sixth annual Lesbian Pride Dance and Silent Auction at the Portland Conference Center, 300 NE Multnomah St. The event runs from 8 pm to 1 am. It is wheelchair accessible; free child care will be available. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Discount coupons are available for all LCP members. For further ticket information, call L C P at 223-0071. Code Blue hosts its third annual Lesbian Pride Dance from 8:30 pm to 2:30 am at 815 SW 15th Ave. (at Yamhill Street) in the Mallory Park Plaza. Tickets are $6 in advance at It’s My Pleasure, 4526 SE Hawthorne Blvd., or $8 at the door. Portions o f the proceeds will benefit Our House, an AIDS hospice. For more information, call 282-6979. Open to those 21 and older. A wom en’s Pride Celebration Dance will be held at 9 pm at the Melody Ballroom, 615 SE Alder St., in Portland. DJ Mel Shapiro will spin the tunes. Tickets are $8 in advance at It’s My Pleasure; Turntable M ary’s, 126 SW Stark St.; and East Avenue Tavern, 727 E Burnside St.; $10 at the door. A raffle will be held to benefit local women’s shelters. For more information call 227-1889. A Queer Pride Dance Party, dubbed “Jizz,” will be held at LaLuna, 215 SE Ninth Ave., from 10 pm to 5 am. Tickets are $ 10 in advance at Jelly Bean, 731 SW 10th Ave. in Portland, $12 at the door. Open to those 21 and older until 2:30 am, then open to all. June 23 through July 9 —Cinema21 and Advo cates for Gay and Lesbian Equality will sponsor the sixth annual Oregon Gay and Lesbian Film Festival.
