A cavalcade o f events celebrate Portland Lesbian and Gay Pride

J une 1 through J une 30 —Gay and Les­
bian Archives of the Pacific Northwest spon­
sors a display at Border’s Books and Music,
708 SW Third Ave. in Portland. The display,
titled “Hidden History, Secret Lives: Images of
Gay and Lesbian Life in Oregon, 1900-1975,“
is a 10-panel exhibit of photographs and docu­
ments collected by GLAPN. Call 220-591 1 for
store hours.
J une 10 and J une 11—The Amazon Dragons,
the Lesbian Community Project’s dragon boat
team, compete in the Portland Rose Festival’s
Dragon Boat Races. Call 223-0071 for more infor­
mation.
J une 13 and 14— KBOO 90.7 FM broadcasts
programs in honor of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and
Transgendered Pride Month. Tuesday, June 13, at
3:30 pm tune in to a speech by journalist Chip
Berlet on “The Rise of the Religious Right.” Au­
thor-activist Suzanne Pharr is interviewed on the
Wednesday Morning Radiozine from 9:30 to 11
am on June 14. Following the Radiozine, from 11
am to noon, Máire Cullen speaks with a member of
the Northern Ireland Gay and Lesbian Rights As­
sociation on her show. Radio Free Ireland.
J une 10—Producer Howie Baggadonutz
brings comedian Scott Capurro to Portland for
a one-night-only show titled “Risk Gay.” The
show begins at 8 pm at Echo Theatre, 1515 SE
J une 12— Proceeds from Queer Night at
LaLuna, 215 SE Ninth Ave. in Portland, will
benefit the Lesbian Avengers. Trashy, glamour
princess attire is required this night, which features
the crowning of the Rose Festival White Trash
Princess. Starts at 9 pm.
A training session is held at 7 pm for volunteer
J une 15—Historian Tom Cook will give a talk
entitled "Gay Visibility in Early Twentieth Cen­
tury Portland,” at 7 pm at Border’s Books and
Music, 708 SW Third Ave. in Portland. Topics
will include Emma Goldman’s lecture on ho­
mosexuality in 1915, early gay and lesbian
meeting places, and “passing women” such as
Lucille Hart and Nell Pickercll.
J une 16— KBOO 90.7 FM airs interviews
and commentary on the eve of Pride Day from
9 am to I pm, with host Linda Shirley.
The Lesbian Avengers sponsor their annual
Dyke March. Participants are asked to assemble
at 6:30 pm at the North Park Blocks in Portland.
The march begins at 7:30 pm, with the route to
be determined. For more information, call the
