June 17th 8:30pm-2:30am Lutheran youth vote for inclusion At the official convention of the Lutheran Youth Organization, held last July in Atlanta, elected delegates from across the nation passed two measures. One vowed ‘T o continue to in elude youth in the LYO regardless of sexual ori entation; this means that the LYO will strive to make all of its expres sions safe spaces where gay, lesbian and bisexual persons can be supported and affirmed, and will continue to dialogue about the issues sur rounding sexual orienta tion.” The other—a resolu tion on gay, lesbian and bisexual youth— which passed by 94 percent of the vote, directed ‘‘that the board of the Lutheran Y outh O rganization strongly encourage ev ery synod to establish an open, nonjudgmental communication link between themselves and the gay, lesbian and bisexual community of the [Evangelical Lutheran Church of America].” Upcoming Northwest pagan events Sappho, the fourth annual Lesbian WitchCamp, will take place June 25 to 30 near Vancouver, British Columbia. This year’s main resorceress is Ruth Rhiannon Barrett, Dianic priestess, educa tor, musician, songwriter and performing artist. Barrett, along with Cyntia Smith, performs fret ted dulcimer music and vocal harmonies to audi ences throughout North America. Barrett will lead several workshops, including “Magical Song and Chant.” Some of the other workshops and discussions are “The Politics of Feminism and Witchcraft in the Dianic Tradition,” “Wenlido: Womyn as Spiritual Warrior,” “Lesbian Sex and Magic,” basket weaving, yoga, juggling, and herbal healing and magic.
