children now grown.

Gay Republicans seek
Oregon members
Republicans for Individual Freedoms, an or
ganization of gay Republicans, is planning to start
a chapter in Oregon.
The group has more than 200 members nation
wide, with about a dozen living in Oregon. Ac
cording to President Gary Baslian, the chapters
have three main areas of responsibility: to speak
out when Republicans make homophobic remarks,
to hold Democrats accountable for campaign
promises to the gay and lesbian community and to
insist that lesbian and gay leaders represent all
community members, not just the Democratic
platform.
“On several occasions, we have been able to
communicate with Republican officials and staff
members who do not usually talk with gay groups,”
said a press release from the group. “Our being
Republican opens many doors that are usually
closed to most other gay groups.”
To become a member or to help start a chapter,
contact the national headquarters: Republicans,
P.O. Box 13162, Atlanta, GA 30324.
