A floor vote on the bill is expected in the next few months in both houses of Congress. Currently, one may be denied a visa or be deported for “ sexual deviation.” This is rarely enforced but the 45 co-sponsors of HR I280 believe it should be removed from the law. Inc. of Boston, the Oregon Congressional delegation ranks twenty-first of all fifty state delegations on votes supporting gay interests. First ranked was Massachusetts, second was Washington State. Worst were New Hampshire, Idaho and Wyoming. These ratings are based upon how often these delegations voted in line with the position of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force. Lesbian and gay health conference in San Francisco The most talented and accomplished lesbian and gay health care and AIDS service providers in the country.” according to one organizer, w ill be brought together in San Francisco on April 5-9 for the Eleventh Annual National Lesbian and Gay Health Conference. Over 400 presentations will be given on topics including lesbian-health care, substance abuse, co-dependency, recovery, people of color, youth, and holistic health care. Speakers and trainers will include Joann Loulan. author and lesbian sex therapist: Dr. James Curran, head of the Centers for Disease Control AIDS program; Laura Davis, author of The Courage to Heal: A Guide fo r Women Survivors o f Child Sexual Abuse: and Dr. David Smith, founder and medi cal director of the Haight-Ashbury Free Clinics. On April 10 in Washington, DC there will be a “ National March for Women’s Equality and Women’s Lives,” organized by National Organization for Women (NOW). It is hoped the event will draw 100.000 participants from around the country. A local rally will coincide with the national march, on Sunday, April 9 at I pm at Terry Schrunk Plaza, SW Third and Madison in Portland. AIDS group circumventing FDA, importing drugs from Europe The AIDS Health Group in New York announced recently it has set up an elaborate network to help PWAs by importing prescrip tion drugs not yet available in the United States. The FDA allows people with life-threatening illnesses to import personal supplies of unapproved drugs; “ buyers’ clubs” for non prescription drugs have existed for some times. The AIDS Health Group makes it possible for people to procure prescription drugs without making personal contact with a doctor in another country. Some of the drugs which the group plans to import include fusidic acid, roxithromycin, azithromycin, immuthiol, ribavirin and hypericin. Photographs o f lesbians needed for book Our Right to Love: a Lesbian Resource Book (1978. Prentiss Hall), an anthology edited by Ginny Vida, is being revised. Photographs of lesbians are needed depicting “ affection, friendship, outdoor scenes, indoor scenes, lesbians at play, lesbians at work, individual portraits, lesbians engaged in sports or other activities, black, white, Asian American, Latina, and Native American lesbians, younger, middle-aged and older lesbians, abled and differently-abled.” Nude and erotic photos will not be used. Photos of non-gay supporters of gay rights, such as public officials, are also needed. Photographers will be paid $35 for each photo accepted for publication.
