The Lesbian/Gay Rights AIDS Action Emergency Response Network has been formed with a $2,500 march grant. Using mailing lists and computers, it will allow for a quick national response in a lesbian or gay crisis. MU March on Washington grants Future regional and national conferences liberation movement, $66,500 was granted to 34 groups: 14 gay and lesbian organizations ($27,500), eight conferences ($15,000), five AIDS causes ($9.000) and six special projects ($10.000). A minimum of 25 percent of the grants went to people of color. No funds will be retained to plan another march. “ We do not have to have marches like regular rituals,” explained co-chair Steve Ault. “ The march was a means to an end. It was an extraordinarily successful event, but it was only a tool to activate new people into the movement and to get action on AIDS. We never planned to continue. It was an ad hoc operation with no responsibilities or power attached. Once we distribute the money, we will disband.” The march co-chairs were Pat Norman of San Francisco. Kay Ostberg of Washington. D.C., Nicole Ramirez Murray of San Diego, and Ault of New York City.
