A lth ou g h she had been in great pain from bone ca n ce r fo r several years, she alw ays found the en ergy to pursue her intellectual interests, and recently en rolled in a M aster’ s program in history at Portland State U niversity. M im i had taught w o m e n ’ s studies and w o m e n ’ s history at m any co lle g e s in the N orth­ w est and in oth er parts o f the country, including N ursing staff, cou n selors, chiropractors and friends w h o had cared fo r M im i testified to her co u ra g e and to the inquiring m ind that sought to understand her approaching death, just as it had T h e N e w S ch o o l in N ew Y ork . She lived in Portland fo r several p eriod s, interspersed with tim e spent in N e w Y ork , w here she w ork ed fo r a w o m e n ’ s union. She w as a lso a creative ph otograph er, and an exhibit o f her ph otos was alw ays sought the truth about the life she lived so fu lly and the history into w hich she w as b o m .
