Peyton Human Relations Award at the Metropolitan Human Relations Award cermony on January 15. Congratulating Com­ missioner Kafoury is MHRC member Sid Galton. The Peyton Award, named for the first M executive director of MHRC, is presented to an individual who makes outstanding achievements in the areas of human and civil rights. Commis­ sioner Kafoury’s main concerns are focused on minority and low-income issues. Her concerns also include divestment in South Africa, women’s and gay rights, and peace issues. She is also the founder of Oregon’s Women’s Political Caucus and was the first lobbyist for the Women’s Rights Coalition. The AIDS Quilt is scheduled to be laid out some­ where in Portland on July 27. The memorial now includes a panel (above) made by friends of Jerry West. The panel depicts Jerry’s love of theater, gardening and playfulness. The panel was constructed by seven of Jerry's friends and delivered to the Names Project in San Francisco at Christmas. Names Project local chapters are forming all over the country, but one has not yet been es­ tablished in Portland.
