Over a year ago, before the play was even
lives at this moment, ever changing and in
process. This theater production was not con considered, several women participated with
Bethroot Gwynn in a one-day theater workshop
which focused on personal expression. Five
women continued to attend subsequent work
shops and expressed interest in working toward
a production piece. Although they live in

NiAodagain began meeting monthly with
Bethroot, assisted by Hawk Madrone.
As the women’s personal work progressed
amidst tears, laughter and recovered childhood
memories, bonds between the women strength
ened and broadened. Over the ensuing
months, with Bethroot and Madrone’s direction
and emotional support, the work progressed
into a glimmer of a production piece. Altera
tions in material happened up to the moment of
the production’s opening in Eugene last October
and have probably continued to occur with
every performance and rehearsal. Given the
nature of emotions and change, this is truly a
work in progress.
Pieces o f Truth is a composition of vignettes
which sometimes spotlight the performers’
telling truths about their individual lives and at
other times portray the relational aspects of
these truths which still impact the women today.
The dynamic interactions between the actors
weave together their individual performances.
The five women who perform in Pieces of
Truth are neither professional performers nor
experienced amateurs. However, with the ex
pert guidance of Bethroot and Madrone’s years
of experience with theater and personal reflec
tion, the actors are able to reveal their inner
selves through this theater piece. Although this
production is not a polished work of art. it is an
amazing presentation bound with courage,
humor, intensity and love. These women take
risks on stage that some of us are not willing to
take even in our most intimate relationships.
Produced by the Lesbian Community Project,
Pieces o f Truth will be performed
Saturday, Feb. 20, at 8 p.m ., at Westminster
Presbyterian Church, Northeast 16th Avenue
and Hancock Street. For more information, call
