for Seattle's summer

Esther’s Pantry needs to be stocked.
Shelves in a basement room at the Embers/
Avenue are waiting to be filled with can
ned and boxed foodstuffs. The food will be
distributed to people with AIDS and ARC
as the need arises.
Team Seattle, the group which organized
Seattle’s 153 member Gay Games II team,
is planning its first annual Northwest Gay/
Lesbian Sports Festival. The festival will
be held over the July 4th weekend in Seat
tle and will feature a wide variety of sports
including soccer, softball, volleyball,
swimming and diving, 5K and IOK runs
and others. Team Seattle will have a com
plete roster of sports after April 15. Many
o f the sports will be sanctioned by their
appropriate national sport association.
According to projections by health offi
cials, the incidence of AIDS among
Oregonians will double every nine months.
As more and more people become ill from
the virus, the need for basic necessities by
some o f those afflicted will increase also.
Esther’s Pantry is a new project of the
Brinker Fund, both named in memory of
Chester Brinker, a.k.a. Esther Hoffman
Howard. Die Brinker Fund, which came
under the Cascade AIDS Project last year,
provides direct financial aid to diagnosed
PWAs and PWARCs.
“ We expect more than 500 athletes to
participate,’’ said Team Seattle Co-chair
Rick Peterson. “ Teams and individual
athletes will be coming from the Pacific
Northwest primarily, from Washington,
Oregon and British Columbia, but we al
ready know w e’ll have athletes from as far
away as Houston and Denver.”

Personals ads invite
prostitution busts
The Seattle Police Department, on
February 12, arrested six men and charged
them with offering and soliciting prostitu
tion, reports the Seattle Gay News. The
vice squad used S G N classified ads to con
tact the men arrested.
One o f the men arrested in the bust ac
cused the police o f entrapment, saying,
“ They proposed everything.” A Seattle
Police Department spokesperson said,
“ We have used ads from all kinds of publi
cations . . . [as] a part of operations here.”
To prove entrapment, unrefutable coer-
sion must be demonstrated and one must
not have contemplated actions for which
entrapment is accused. In any case involv
ing sex, making an accusation of entrap
ment stick is extremely rare.
