"What happened?" you ask. Voters in the Illinois primary, in which 25% of registered voters turned out, rejected the Democratic Party’s candidates for lieutenant governor and secretary of state. Elected instead were two followers of arch-conservative and demagogue, Lyndon H. Larouche, Jr. LaRouche’s political arm, the National Democratic Policy Committee which has no political affiliation to the Democratic Party, calls for mandatory screening of all Americans for AIDS. "Diseases have no civil rights. People have civil rights, diseases don’t," says Mark Fairchild, the successful candidate for lieutenant governor in Illinois . “ Nuremberg-style” trials for the “ immediate elimination” of Jewish influence in business, government, and labor, and a call for “total mobilization" for “total war," among other neo-Nazi style “ solutions" to world problems. LaRouche and his followers claim credit for Ronald Reagan's "Star Wars ’ space weapons program. The Reagan administration, the CIA, FBI, and the Drug Enforcement Administration have all used LaRouche’s privately acquired intelligence reports in determining public policy. In this election year, LaRoucheians are candidates in 149 primary races for the (J.S. House of Representatives, 14 for the Ü.S. Senate, and 618 for other offices in 26 states. LaRouche followers reportedly are candidates in five state legislative districts in the Oregon primary in May. As I read the book, Freedom From the Known, I discovered an idea that profoundly changed the way I viewed the world and my place in it With the words "Freedom from the known" (words I savor daily) Krishnamurti defined the essence of anarchy — one must be resonsible for one's own acts because dependence on someone or something else makes one a robot. Jiddu Krishnamurti died on February 17, at the age of 90. During his lifetime, Krishnamurti had traveled about the world in what he once descibed as an effort “to set people, absolutely, unconditionally, free." Although he was the author of more than 40 books, most of them dialogues and lectures, Krishnamurti insisted that he was neither a guru nor an authority figure. He often declared that human beings needed neither spiritual authorities nor organizations. “The imortant thing," he often said, “ is to free your mind of envy, hate and violence, and for that you don’t need an organization." His last major public appearance was at the Kennedy Center in Washington. D.C., last April to speak on "Do We Really Want Peace?" In a recent interview for Natural Liuing on WBAI in New York, Krishnamurti said. “As a human being, you are the rest of the world and the rest of the world is you."
