M ay Eve, 1977 in Frankfurt, Germany,
when 3000 women marched to protest
violence against women. The first such
protest in the United States was held the
next year in San Francisco when 5000 wo
men m arched to protest pornography.
Since then, the event has spread to cities
throughout the United States and has
been an annual event in Portland for the
la st several years.
