Robin Morgan, poet, playw right, jo u rn a list and internationally acclaim ed author, w ill speak for the first tim e to a Portland audience at 12:00 pm and 7:30 pm in PSU's Sm ith Center Ballroom , located at 1825 SW Broadway. Women in Portland w ill celebrate with a m ulticultural festival at the Pine Street Theater, 9th and SE Pine, on Satur day from 10 to 5 pm. A $2.00 adm ission is charged, childcare is provided, and the Pine Street Theater is wheelchair accessible. The Pine Stre e t The a te r w ill be trans form ed into an eclectic blend of women's culture. Stages w ill be set up featuring m usicians, poets, and speakers. The m ainstage w ill feature Mother- lode, Susan Arrow and the Quivers, the Portland Wom en's Jug Band and other m usicians throughout the day. Another stage w ill cater to poetry and ballad en thusiasts with poetry readings by Judith Barrington, Kathleen Reyes, Barbara Diam ond and others. Mary Benson w ill be perform ing songs from England and Ire land with other local vocalists alternating poetry and song through the course of the festival. C raftspeople, food booths and organi zations a lso highilght the d ay's events. The Northwest Big Mountain Support Group w ill be there alongside A Wom an's Place Bookstore, the National O rganization for Women, the Portland Women's Fem inist Health Center and others. Craftspeople w ill d isp la y wares ranging from pottery to paintings, baskets to m asks, and since Portlanders are food-loving people, food booths w ill entice participants with ethnic cuisine. The Wom en's International League for Peace and Freedom w ill wrap up the d ay's festivities with a political forum led by Kathleen Saadot. entitled "W om en in the Budget." The forum w ill deal with the issue of redirecting the m ilitary budget into program s that would benefit women "Jo yful and p o litic a l," We Three sings of w om en's experience "from a place of love," but they f i nd the irony and the humor, torn. A m azing in their own right, they have opened for such dynamos as C astleberry-Dupree and Ferron, as well as perform ing at the W orld M usic Festival here a few years back. In intricate harm ony and varied rhythms, We Three creates songs with folk, ja zz, and classical roots. Tic ke ts a va ila b le at the door or in advance at the W om en's Place Book store, $4. Portland dancer/choreographer Josie Moseley is joined by ten dancers and six m usicians in "Hom e Before D ark," a con cert of modem dance. The M ain C linic o f W e ste rn States C h iro p ra c tic College w ill present a free children’s health screening in the G atew ay area of Portland from 9 am to 1 pm. The screening w ill include a spinal ex am ination and testing of the heart, lungs, eyes, ears, nose and throat by supervised interns from WSCC. C hild ren may receive a dental exam by a local dentist and a comprehensive eye exam by supervised optometry stu dents from Pacific University. The appointm ent w ill include a consul tation and referral to other health care sp e c ia lists if necessary.
