This m usic a l com edy about four women frie nd s who decide to form a punk rock group has been playing since January at Storefront and w ill move to the new Sum us Theatre space beginning Septem ber 21st. The show w as written by A M C o llins and C had Henry and o rig in a lly opened at Pioneer Square in Seattle in A p ril, 1983, w here it is still running. It a lso broke a ll b ox-office records at Storefront. The move a llo w s Storefront to go on with its upcom ing season, beginning with Sud s, another o rig in a l m usical comedy. SATURDAY Artists Repertory Theatre is proud to announce the indom itable Vana O 'Brien in a com m and perform ance of Siste r Mary Ignatius Explains It All Fo r You with the supporting cast from A R T's 1983 sum m er production. Siste r M ary is a brittle, lay-dow n-the-law teacher at a parochial school, spreading her p e c ulia r gospel of nattering preju dice, c e lestia l bureaucracy and blood vengeance among the young and unwary. Sister Mary is directed by Rebecca A s part of their m onth-long program . Interaction A rt and Science, Northwest Ar tists Workshop and The Oregon Museum o f Science and Industry w ill present a w eek-long sound installation by C a lifo r nia a rtist Bruce Fier. The installation w ill be at Northw est A rtists W orkshop O ctober 8- 12, in the M ain G allery. Fie r's piece w ill consist of a network of tubes suspended form the g a lle ry ceiling, in a tre e -like form ation. As the tubes re spond to the am bient environm ental noises, the colum n of a ir in each one reso nates to its particula r frequency. G allery visito rs are invited to experim ent with m ak ing sounds in the g a llery, and put their ea rs to the tubes to hear the consequent changes in sound. A show of Photographs by Linda Bellon of Los A ngeles w ill open at the sam e tim e in the East G a llery at NWAW, and run through Novem ber 4. The show, entitled Medical Absurdities, is a group of color photographs which depict bod ies in pseud o-m ed ica l settings. The photo g ra p hs function as a lle g o ric a l statements about the lo ss of control people exp eri ence in a com plex society. Humorous and som ew hat m acabre settings are used to point out real problem s with the m edical profession, the p o litic a l and econom ic in stitutions upon which we are dependent, and our existential plight.
