Ikeda's installation, entitled Room # 2,
will use the entire Main Gallery space. It
will consist of ‘shelves' built along the walls
holding various mixed-media construc­
tions, with other objects placed around
the floor so that the entire space becomes
a sort of mythological ruin referring to the
cyclic series of birth, death, and rebirth of
an individual or a civilization.
Gischer's paintings in the East Gallery
are illusionistic still-lifes with real objects
attached to their surfaces in such a way
that it is difficult for the viewer to ascertain,
without poking and prodding, what is
'real' and what is not.

SATURDAY
Earl Robinson — composer, conduc­
tor, folksinger, pianist, guitarist and social
activist — will be performing at the Port­
land State University campus Christian
Ministry, 633 S.W. Montgomery. There will
be a reception with Mr. Bobinson at 7 p.m.
and the concert will be at 8 p.m. S5 dona­
tion ($3 for children, seniors, and low in­
come) is payable at the door. The concert
is a benefit for New El Salvador Today.
Robinson was trained as a classical
composer and conductor. Much of his
music mixes his classic training with popu­
lar and folk traditions. He has written more
than 50 songs, a children's opera about
dolphins, several folk operas and a con­
certo for five string banjo.
Windfire, a rap group for gay, lesbian,
and bisexual youth meets at 2:30 p.m. in
Old Wives Tales banquet room, 1300 E.
Bumside.

ven Clark Pachosa as James Tyrone. New

Alana Beth Lipp, who directed three
productions at the New Rose Theatre in
1983-84 [Hedda Gabler and Crimes of the
Heart, as well as O'Neill's A Moon for the
Misbegotten), will direct this magnificent
and powerful autobiographical drama.
The play will run through October 20,1984.

The Portland Lesbian and Gay Pride
Community Band practices at Atkinson

musical skills, and to be an ensemble of

9-10 p.m. Mary Catherine Lamb reads
several personal narratives of Japanese
American women who endured the
hardship of sudden evacuation from their
own communities and internment in deso­
late "relocation" camps during World
War II. Their stories appear in And Justice
for All: An Oral History of the Japanese-
American Detention Camps, compiled by
John Tateishi.
