The Toussaint L’Ouverture Series, 41 gouache paintings by the preeminent black American artist Jacob Lawrence, will be on view in the First Floor Corridor Gallery. Ceated in 1938, the series dramatically illustrates the story of the slave Toussaint L'Ouverture, who orga­ nized the revolt in Haiti that led to the island's independence in 1804. This exhibition, on view through November 4, is circulated by the Amistad Research Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, and supported by the-American Missionary Association, part of the United Church Board for Homeland Ministries, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
