BEYOND.
Through the dim clouds faint, far flash of light
Falters a frw brief roommu. then the flow
Diffuses over fitful flakes of snow,
And all the rapture wingi from height to height.
Trailing in tremulous and ray flight,
The gold of glinting games flow on flow,
Blushing with blossoms only sunsets blow.
And palpitate against the opal night
The mountains glorihed, transmuted, teem
To melt into the infinite blue calm,
Triumphant over storm. Would we but see,
Through dark and dreary days, life's perfect dream,
Esulting, heavenward sweep, in joyful psalm,
How light our work and pain and grief would be.

MY I.OVE.
My love breathed on my placid heart,
As a breeze sweeps o'er a summer sea,
And, gazing, caused its chorus to start
And thrill in sweetest ecslacy.
But now that gentle summer wind
Has blown into a hurricane.
Whose surges fill my restless mind
And wildly beat upon my brain.
For my dear love has gone away,
My amis no more shall clasp her form;
And, 0, I dread that dreary day
When death like calm succeeds this storm.
For howsoever still the wind,
Yet will the restless surges roll;
And evermore, alas! I'll find
Peace is stranger to my soul.

TEMPTATION.
I met Temptation in a wood;
She reached her lender arms to me,
Anil, 0! her eyrs were warm and dark,
And. Ot her lips were sweet to see;
Her unbound hair was flcck'd with gold, .
l-lke sunlight trembling thro' the leaves,
And, 0! her voice was soft and low,
I . ike winds among the harvest sheaves.
Her hmul seemed pure and white as snow,
New -fallen on some mountain height,
Where only snows on white snows fall.
From night to day. from day to night.
Her slender waist was girdled round
With puqile poppies, crimson-tipped;
And. O! her breath like red wine,
And, 01 she was delicious lipped,
The light was dim within that wood
1 kissed her, and I knew no more
I'ntil I heard the sad sea waves
Breaking their hearts against the shore,
And moaning like some living thing
That could nut bear its weight of woe;
Then I remembered other tics,
Ami. all remorseful, prayed to go.
But. k! the arms that hekl me close.
Were hot as fire, strong as death;
Her golilen hairs were turals of steel,
And burning, scorching, was her breath.
The poacs, dying at her waist,
Petal by petal, fluttered kn;
Her liw were dry and parched, and
Her eyes were shaikmcd by a frown.
The night was black within that wood,
And still the waves totaled on the shore.
" Temptation," pniyrd I but she laughed
" Temptation Is your love no more;
Temptation, hating wvin you, tired.
And gas you me; my name Is Sin,
And 1 will hold you close till death
Behold! Temptation is my twin."
The night was black; the sad sea waves
Still beat in grief against the shore;
That hour I knew that Sin and 1
Were wedded fast forevermore.
