WEST SHORE. 113 What do the wise men at Salem think of this : Report from Salem Indicate that there ia no chance of the Oregon legis lature making a substantial appropriation for state exhibit at the world's fair at Chicago, and that there is a strong movement in favor of catting the sum down to $20,000, in which event some member will vote in favor of no appropriation. Now, by all means, let Washington's legislature do the handsome thing and appropriate an ample fund for this purpose, which can be assisted by levying a small special tax for the next two years. This will be a glorious opportunity to lay Oregon In the shade, which this state can do any day in the week in the matter of a display of natural resources. We'll show oar sister state a trick or two about Oregon wheat, Oregon bait, Oregon lumber, Oregon salmon, Oregon hops, Oregon spars, etc., etc., etc. Let's give to the world an exhibit that will forever prove to the people Washington's superiority over Oregon. Vancouver Reguter, and representatives of the press of the cities named. The principle exer cises will take place at Blaine, and silver spikes will be driven at the inter national boundary. The largest mining deal ever transacted in Snohomish county, Wash., was filed in the auditor's office February 4. It transfers from S. J. Marsh et al., to the Silver Lode Mining and Smelting company, the following mines in the Silver creek country : Edna, Summit, Edith, Vista, Silver Tip, Lake View, Sister and Mollis and the Silver lake mill site. The amount in volved is $1,000,000. S. J. Marsh, et al. consist of the following persons: S. J. Marsh and wife, E. L. Dearborn and wife, A. P. Keene and wife, J. K. Murphy and T. E. Davis, all of Seattle, and 0. R. Drew and wife of Bothell. The transfer made a great deal of excitement among the miners and when spring opens many prospectors will go into the Silver creek country. Completion of the Fairhaven A Southern and the New Westminster Southern to connection with the Canadian Pacific will be formally celebrated on the fourteenth instant. There will be no general excursion, on account of lack of cars. Besides officials of both roads, Vice President Clough and Chief Engineer Beckler, of the Great Northern, will be present, and invita tions will be extended to the governor and members of the state government of Washington, and governor and members of the provincial government of British Columbia, and also to the mayors and members of city councils of Fairhaven, Whatcom, Blaine, New Westminster, Vancouver and Victoria, A representative of the Bell telephone company has mads arrange ments at Eugene City for establishing an exchange at that place. The plant of the old company will be utilised as far as possible, and new wires erected to places not reached by the old ones. The bill granting the Umatilla Irrigation Co. the right of way across the Umatilla reservation has passed both houses of congress and been signed by the president.
