j Tlie biggest mineral strike of the sear on
in the Our d'Alenea was made within
' one mile of Mullen, Idaho, by John W.
Smith, a deaf and dumb prospector. He
found a five foot vein of eighteen inches
of solid galena at a depth of fifteen feet be
low the gratis roots. A quarter interest in
the proerty has been bonded for $10,000.
Port Falls, a young town in Northern
Idaho, was only established last spring,
but it has already located or assured a
raw mill, a flour mill, a woolen mill, a
h and door factory, a wagon and car
riage factory and a match factory. A
water works system is bting put in and an
electric light plant erected. A street car
line Is announced to he built soon. The
town bids fair to become an important
manufacturing center.
The discovery of a wonderful ice cave is
reported from Taney. Its location is near
ly three miles due east of that place and
about twenty-five miles from Moscow.
The cave or mine is at an elevation of
altout 2,000 feet above the sea. The ice is
covered with moss and boulders but a
rtrong free ling current of air issuing from
it indicates the eiistence of a large cave
in the hillside. By some it is snposed
that this is a relic of the glacial period.
The election on the fifth instant to de
termine the sentiment of the people of the
territory regarding statehood and the new j
constitution resulted in favor of the con
stitution and admission by a large major
tty. The election was entirely on its own
merits, it beii.g free from the question of
filling the otRces, and as a result the issue
as clear and it carried. The delegate in '
congress will have strong support in urg
ing the admimion of Idaho to the anion
at the coming session of congress.
