Work on the system will be commenced at once, and it is expected that the works will be in operation before the end of the year. Another matter in contemplation is a sewerage sys tem. When water works and a sewer system shall have been constructed, RoBeburg will be one of the beet equipped municipalities in the state. Situated as it is in the midst of one of the loveliest valleys in the west, possessing a most healthful and delightful climate and surrounded by fertile and productive farms, it certainly holds out many inducements to the business man, manulacturer, farmer and fruit grower. NEWBERG AND CHEHALEM VALLEY. THE charming Chehalem valley, lying but twenty five miles south of the city of Portland, is un dergoing rapid development and is fast becoming one of the leading fruit growing regions in the northwest, especially in the vicinity of Newberg, the commer cial point of the valley, where fully twenty thousand fruit trees were set out the past year, and which has become the center of the fruit interests of that por tion of the famous old county of Yamhill. Orchards are not being set out in the slovenly way so common in former days in Oregon, but are being planted with great care, both as to the selection of choico and vig orous trees and their proper transplanting and subse quent cultivation. One orchard in particular is de serving of special mention, Oak Fir orchard, the property of the proprietor of The West Biioiie. It contains twenty-four acres, upon which are twenty, five hundred trees, all of the moBt desirable market varieties. These trees are from two to four yean old and some of them will War largely this season. Around the orchard is a neat picket fenco, and in a beautiful oak grovo is a splendid building spot for a residence. A largo portion of tho country aUmt Newberg is being cut up into small tracts of from fivo to thirty acres for fruit farms, and in a few years the town will bo surrounded by a largo lumber of such fine orchards as Oak Fir. Splendid roads lead out from Newberg in all directions, along which neat and tasty residences aro Wing erected, making tho valley Bssume a most cheerful and homelike apxaranco. In a very short time, a few years at moat, Chehalem valley will bo ouo great orchard and garden, and will bo visited by pleasure seekers in great numbers. In fact, preparations aro already bring made for tho ac commodation of thoso who will deairo to visit this charming valley on Suudaya. Tho managers of tho Portland & Willamette Valley railroad havo put on two extra Sunday trains betweou 1'ortland ami New. berg, leaving each plaeo in tho rooming and return ing in the evening, with a round trip faro of only ono dollar. This will enable tho citizens of Portland to spend Sunday in Newberg aud thoo of tho latter place to do tho samo in Portland.
