In a recent number of the Contra
Costa Gazette published at Martinez,
Cal.. the former home of Mr. Isaac
Blum, of this city, we find the follow
ing poem, written by that gentleman,
during a visit to the scenes of his child
hood. It contains many beautiful lines,
and as Mr. B. has contrihuted numer
ous valuable articles to the press of
both Uregon and California, we know
that this, his latest production, will be
read with pleasure by his many friends
here at home:
LIFE'S SWEET MORNING TIME.

"Our early days! How often back
We turn on life's bewildering (rack,
To wbere, o'er hill and valley, plays
The sunlight of our early days!'
The ever circling path we tread in nntute's march
Returns us to the starting point to life's sweet
T was thus I mused as onward sped my vessel o'er

1 paced the trim Parihenius' deck amidst a motley
With eager glances toward the spot which I had
known so long;
Anil oh, how did impatience gain upon my inmost
And Memory, awakened then, het wealth of

The guardian hills came full in view 'neath which
And, idle though the wish must seem, how longed
I to extend
My hand across the waters' waste, and grasp that
of each friend;
For time had never from my mind the picturing
Which boyhood's dear experience on Memory's
scroll had traced;
The rickety old schoolhouse, yet a landmark on
The rickety schoolmaster, too, as kind, as lame
The "great big" boys who "bounced" me there,
