this week.
Mrs. Hensley of Woodville was in
town Tuesday.
Geo. L. Davis of Medford visited
friends in town Sunday.
John H. Carkin Esq. was over from
Medford Wednesday.
R. G. Smith of Grants Pass was at
the court house Wednesday.
Clarence Reames of Medford attend­
ed the circuit court this week.
W. M. Colvig of Medford was trans­
acting business in town Tuesday.
Geo. W. Trefren Esq. vf Ashland
was at the court house Tuesday.
Mark Watkins of the Applegate
valley was a recent visitor in town.
Ralph Jennings of the Applegate
valley was a visitor in town this week.
Gus Newbury was over from Med­
ford Tuesday attending the circuit
court.
Miss Mary Peninger of Central Point
visited her cousin Miss Laura Neuber,
this week.
The Pioneer’s Association will hold
its annual re-union, in this city Sep­
tember 22.
Porter J. Neff Esq. of Medford was
transacting business at the court house

The new Bank of Jacksonville as­
sumed control of the “Jacksonville
Office” Tuesday morning.
W. H. Moody, representing the
Hill Advertising Agency of San
Francisco, was in town Monday.
Lynn Purdin, Editor of the Central
Point Globe, made this office a
pleasant visit Thursday afternoon.
Dr. John Reuter of The Dalles ar­
rived Thursday evening, and is visit­
ing his mother Mrs. C. Reuter of this
city.
Geo. L. Davis of Medford filed his
declaration of candidacy and petitions
for nomination for county commissioner
late Thursday afternoon.
Judge Dox is becoming one of the
most popular committing magistrates
in the county; three preliminary ex­
aminations being held before him this
week.
The commissioners granted the
petition of the citizens of Talent fcr
the incorporation of that thriving
village, Wednesday and it will soon be
putting on municipal airs.
Services at the Presbyterian church
will be resumed next Sunday, follow­
ing the pastor’s usual summer vacation.
Sabbath school at 10 A. M. and preach­
ing service at the usual hour in the
evening.
Mrs. M. Armstrong, an aged resident
of this place and a pioneer of South­
ern Oregon, is reported seriously ill at
her home in this city. Her daughter
Mrs. Mary Carpenter of Portland, is
with her.
Attention is called to the bank

column, the reports showing that
both institutions are in a splendid
condition and worthy the utmost con­
fidence of the public.
C. F. Hoefs, while engaged in set­
ting a post in the ground Monday,
was severly injured by a sliver which
penetrated the muscles of the shouldei
to the depth of five inches inflicting
a serious and painful wound.
George Boos, of Seattle, Wash, a
special representative of the Census
Bureau, in the Department of Labor
and Commerce, was in town Monday,
taking a census of the different
manufacturing industries in this
vicinity.
The Rogue River Valley Title-
Abstract company is making rapid
progress in the work of indexing the
county records and expects to be ready
for business early in October. Some
seven or eight thousand dollars worth
of work has already been contracted
for.

Monday was Labor Day, and a legal
holiday, but aside from the county
offices, the postofflee, and the banks,
it was not generally observed.
J. C. Barnum, Vice President of the
R. R. V. railroad has returned from an
outing at San Francisco and other
points of interest in California.
The entertainment in the assembly
room at the public school, Wednesday
evening was well attended and was
pronounced “very good” by those
present.
