posed electric roads; one steam railroad in operation, and
a through road to the coast in prospect; a water system
under construction and numerous improvements in sight;
it looks as though Jacksonville was waking up to the
needs of the hour. As a means toward the desired end,
put down your name as a member of the commercial club
now being organized and help the work along. You can
help to make this city one of the best small towns in the
state; why not do it NOW?
We understand that a new company has been organ
ized for the purpose of constructing and operating an
electric road to connect the county seat with other towns
in the valley. It is proposed to ask the county court for
a franchise for right of way over certain of the county
roads for this purpose. If the franchise is granted it is
said that work will begin at once.
The bill introduced by Senator Bourne, to amend the
homestead laws as applying to lands in Oregon should be
passed without a dissenting vote. The proposed measure
makes the cultivation of the land, and an aggregate pro
duction of crops to the amount of $1500 a necessary re
quirement in order to obtain patent, instead of a residence
provision as at present.
How about the commercial club? Have you decided
to become a member and help along the improvement of
your city? If not, why not?
