ter’s telegram in defense of Governor
Haskell. He not only adheres to his
former statement, but adds further
charges, showing Mr. Haskell’s friend­
ship to the Standard Oil Company.
He then contrasts Mr. Bryan’s action
with Mr. Taft’s refusal to indorse
Senator Foraker, and concludes by de­
claring Mr. Bryan’s policy for dealing
with the trusts as impracticable as his
railroad and momentary policies. The
letter is too long for our limited space,
but the following paragraphs give the
substance:
Haskell’s close relation with the
Standard Oil interests in Ohio was a
matter of common notoriety.
In defiance of the Attorney-General
of the state (Oklahoma) he intended
to protect the interests of a great cor­
poration (the Prairie Oil & Gas Com­
pany, controlled by the Standard)
against the law.
Contrast your action in this case of
Governor Haskell with Mr. Taft’s ac-
tion as regards Senator Foraker.
Mr. Taft refused to be a party to
the renomuiation of Senator Foraker,
showing by actual deeds that his words
were true when he said: “I do not

preparing to have a rousing meeting
next Widnesday night at the court
house at 7:30 sharp. The committees
have been at work for two weeks pre­
paring a program. The Taft-Sherman
quartette will sing campaign songs,
and several instrumental pieces have
been selected. The hall will be taste­
fully decorated for the oc< asion. The
club has made arrangements to have
Taft’s speech reproduced on the phono-

school fund for Jackson County has
been completed, each district will be
allowed a sum in April almost equal
