An Editor’s Appeal
ot JAl K-
M\ friend, help the editor in his wild
eyed search for news. When your
friends come to see von, if you are not
ashamed of it, tell him; when your
wife gives a tea party if you have re
covered from the effects of the gossip,
drop in with the news, when a baby
arrives fill your pockets with cigars
and call; if you go to a party steal
some of the good things, and leave ’em
with theitem in our sanctum. If your
wife licks you come in and let us see
your scarsand tender sympathy through
the [taper; If your mother-in-law has
ilied don't be bashful about it; give in
all the common place news. In short
whatever makes you feel proud, sad,
lonesome or glad submit it to our 24
karat wisdom i. nd see our matted locks
part and stand on end with gratitude,
which will pour from every pore like
moisture fro.n the dew be-sprinkied

Our Opportunity
Surveying parties will lie in the field
>n a few days running lines for the pro-
posed electric rail road. Will Jackson
ville be in line? Or will wej be out?
This depends; ,if we raise $2500 we
will be inclu led, but if we can’t raise
this small sum. no company will put
money in the town. This $25 10 is me
rely a guarantee that the people want
the line. We have advantages over
any city in the valley and. if this line
passes through the city Jacksonville
will grow and take its place among the
cities of the world. Electricity is the
most modern means of transportation
and if we can get a line connecting with
tide water, nothing would develope the
city more. There are several good
routes, one t > connect at Myrtle Point
wit i the line al •ady built from Marsh-
field to Myrtle Point. Thus we would
soon bo c miii _■ I with R isoburg and
Drain on the main line of the S P. and
deep sea vessels touch at M irshtield.
The S. I*. Co. is now b lilbing a line
from Drain to Marshfield. Roseburg.
Marshfield, Ban Ion and North Bend
r lised nearly $3)0.0JJ in two days for
an electric line from Roseburg to the
Bay cities.
All that is asked of Jacksonville is
S25 11; this money is not donated bnt inve
sted in one of the best business enter
prises ever presented to the citizens of
this city. We cannot ask a packing
house to locate here: the freight is too
high to reach market, although it
would lie the best natural loitition in the
state for an enterprise of this kind.
This is an excellent location for ■.
sash and door factory, cooperage a id '
winery, and the best brick clay to be
found anywhere can be found in un- I
limited quanities on the outslirts of the
city. In order to induce people to com •
here and invest we m ist have better
transportation with a 1J cent fare to
Medford. Many Medford business men
would move their families here, because
the climate is so much nicer here and
the city is beautifully located.
i
This is the most beautiful season of
the year, the green foliage is at its
height and the fruit is rapidly maturing.
In the fields mowers can be seen at
work and shortly the hinders will be
tieing up the grains for wintev use.
If there is one thing more than an-
other in our experience in publishing
a local newspaper that makes us tired,
it is the practice of some that te:l us
that we must not say anything about
this or that thing that has happened.
There are two sides to every question
and it would be a very easy matter to
formulate a reason why a paper should
not report everything.
WOODPECKERS
RUNNING HOGS
A Ridgefarm stockbuyer went up
north of the city Monday to l<x»k at
some jsirkers which one of our farmers
wanted to dis|s>se of. The buyer liked
the hogs only they were a little light ir.
weight, and he also wanted to know
what made the hogs race across the
field so often. The farmer in a hoarse
whisper explained that he had always
called the hogs to feed then, but that
he took cold and lost his voice, and
then got in the habit of pounding on
the fence with a stick and now since
the weather is getting warm the darned
wo slpeckers were running his hogs to
death.
For a Sprained Ankle.
As usually treated, a sprained ankle
will disable the injured person for a
month or more, but by applying < hain-
beriain’s Liniment and observing
the directions with each bottle faith
fully, a cure may be effected in many
cases in less than one wec“k s time.
This liniment is a most remarkable
prépara'ion. Try it for a sprain or bru
ise. or when laid up with chronic or
muscular rheumatism, and you are cer
tain to be delighted with the prompt
relief which it affords. For sale by
