Go to Salem to See,
Hear and Learn of the
Knights Work.
Tuesday evening about 100 Py-
thians and their wives were tak
en to Salem by the S. P. special
for a district convention meeting
at that city. Lodges were repre
sented from the counties of Polk
and Marion to the number of
about 300 people in all. Three
candidates from Independence
aid on from Dallas were taken
through tie Knight rank, and a
elected team was used from the
different lodges. 'The degree
work was excellent and the meet
in j? a success.
Grand Chancellor Leslie E.
Crouch, Grand Keeper of Rec
ords and Seals Walter Gt eeon.
Supreme Representative Gus C.
Moser and Past Grand Chancel
lor Fraak T. Wrightman were
present and made the old hall
ring with their Pythian patriotic
addresses.
Brother Crouch stated that Py
thianism and patriotism were
terms synonomous, and that the
man who was not patriotic, who
did not love his country, would
not back his country in this war,
was mot only a slacker and un
patriotic but that he did not have
the elements of Pythianism in
him. That every Pythian was
bound to protect his country, re
vere,his flag, and make known
all elements of disloyalty in his
home territory: that the teach -
by some of the members na IV
thian is ashaaed of his patriotism.

of every Pythian to see that
those boys who were now on for

all the citizens in this awfu

Brother Gleason followed with
an eloquent appeal for the Amer

and for Pythians to guard the
home from the inroads of sedi
tion and disloyalty.
Hon. Gus C. Moser stated this
was no time for half hearted pa

tkian loved his country and
would back the boys in the
trenches and in the ramps from
the Brjyine and intrlgie of the
quiet but ever working enemy in
our midst.
Brother Wrightman painted an
eloquent appeal to patriotism
and showed in a picture of word
beauty the war against the un
speakable Hun and the brutal
Kaiser, stating that we would
march into Berlin before this war
was ever and make the German
war eod3 sing "Yankee Doodle

we are through.
The evening closed with a light
that lime a good deal of enthusi

The Eaater serrices Sunday
