Ilinna went to Salem Sunday
night where they attended a
musical event the singing: of
the "Messiah."
John B. Knowles, a well known
citizen of this section of the
county, died at his home north
of Independence Monday. At
his advanced age of SO, he could
not combat the dreaded disease,
pi.eumonia. An obituary will be
published next week.
M. E. Hulbert of Albany has
been appointed manager of the
Oregon Power Co. at Independ
ence and is now in charge. Mr.
Ilurlbert is a very pleasant man
to meet. E. M. Blenis came over
with him and introduced him to1
the office, machinery, etc.
S. W. Leonard will hold a pub
lic sale on next Thursday. Dec.
27, at which time he will sell five
head of horses, 18 head of cattle,
farm implements, furniture, etc.
It will be the largest sale held in
this section this year. After the
sole the Leonard family will
probably spend several months
in California.
J. F. Currie, the Monitor's
tried-arid-true handy man, went
to Portland yesterday being call
ed there by a large printing com
pany to superintend the printing
of a very delicate job, one which
evidently no printer in Portland
felt competent to handle. Much
work from Portland omes here
"for Currie to do." He will re
turn in a few day.
