The Benton County Courier makes a loud
"holler" about being misquoted by the Oregonian
but as yet not loud enough to be heard in Port
land. The Oregonian seems to have Suddenly
become afflicted with deafness.
The first direct response of the people to the
fake alarm of the dividend patriots, their allied
interests and tory newspapers occurred in Michi
gan last week when Henry Ford, a so-called
peace-at-any-price man, won over Senator Will
iam Alden Smith as the Republican choice for
president. Mr. Ford was not a candidate and so
continually declared while Senator Smith has
been a popular Republican leader in Michigan for
years. Under these circumstances, the victory
for Ford is remarkable and shows without a doubt
that the people of Michigan are uppoed to mili
tarism in any form, even if disguised under the
name of "preparedness." The same result will
occur in every one of the other states should the
issue be presented as it was in Michigan.
