Thus far 1916 has afforded a
delightful opportunity for the
discussion of a most beloved
American author, John Green-
Itaf Whittier, and the pbture of
his childhood bonne which he
sketch with exquisite skill ia
"Snow-Bound," which in always
read with increasing admiration,
especially when before us lies so
beautiful a demonstration, and
surely the "Gnpettea'' are-
' Content to let the north-w ind roar
I In bullied rage at pane and door,
While the rvd uga before us beat
- The frost-line back with tropic heat."
j Hut the more fortunate ele
ment has sized every opportu
nity U enjoy the marvelous
! pleasures offered by the "Snow-
Storm."
The past week has been rathe r j
quiet as snow sports, coasting
end sleighing parties and Rath
i rings of a most informal nature
have almost entirely submerged
other social functions, and those
who were never familiar with
"bobbing" are now found snugly
wrapped waiting-for the rare op
portunity to fo "bobbing," after
which the gay parties return to
arious homes for a hot supper
or an impromptu luncheon.

LEAP YEAR
The fact that "6ld Father
Time" in all his wisdom again
announces "Leap Year" does not
necessarily mean that American
femininity will display any
greater alertness to leap and
the chances are that, churished
singlenesa will not be endangered
because the calendar proclaims
"Leap Year," but the resolute
bachelor will continue to revel ia
all the freedom of his bachelor-hood-dom.
The truly American young
woman is to be won and does
not think of doing the winning.
An interesting conversation
between two charming Independ
ence belles was heard since the
beginning of 1916. Misi Bru
nette said to Miss Blonde, "Isn't
it just to startling, why, Miss
Norn De Plume is wearing a
magnificent tiolituire already and
she's only had two weeks in
which to propose, Te-ke-he!"
Miss Blonde replied, "Why,
Nom-de would certainly never
do such a thing, yon can wager
Mr. Blank did every bit of the
seeking and he'll be mighty glad
to win her, too, even tho' he has
tried a long time."
