Improvements
Notice is hereby given that the City
Council of Independence, Oregon,
proposes to improve "C" street from
the west line of 2nd street to the west
line of 7th street in Independence,
Polk County, Oregon, by building or
causing to be built thereon and upon
the eeta'.libhed grade of said part of
said "C" street, Bitucrete hard sur- j
face pavement, li inch wearing
surface with a 4 i ch concrete founda
tion upon the roadway of said street of
the width of 30 feet, or extending from
curb line to curb line upon said part of
said street, nd by grading said part of
said street to sub-grade and by construc
ting concrete curb lines thereon in form
and manner and at the distances from
the property lines aa by ordinances of
said city provided, namely at a distance
of 18 feet from the said property lines
that said work shall be done according
to the plans and specifications thereof
prepared by C L. Tice, City Engineer,
and now on file in the City Recorder's
office of said City, marked "Plans,
Specifications, and Estimates for the
proposed Improvement of "C" Street,
Independence, Oregon," which plans
and specifications are hereby referred
to and made a part of this Notice for
the purpose of identifying ar.d di ter-
mining the kind and nature of said
proposed street improvements, the
manner in which the same st all be so
improved, the width and thickness of
such proposed improvements, and the
kind and nature of the materials to
be used in the construction of the
same, and all other information neces
sary to an intelligent understating of

street improvements will be made and
done at the cost of the abutting real
oroperty, excepting street intersect
ions which will be done at the cost of
the City and paid for from the general
fund thereof, and will be done under
the supervision of the Street Com
iniasioner unless otherwise ordered by
the City Council. That the City Coun
il of said City will meet at the Council
Chambers in the City Hall of sair1
City on the 31st day of July, 1914, at
8 P. M., thereof, for t e purpose of
assessing, ascertaining and determin
ing the probable cost of said proposed
street improvements and to determine
the proportionate part thereof each
lot, block or part thereof, liable there
for shall bear, based upon the benefits
conferred by reasons of such proposed
improvements, and the probable cost
thereof will then and there be assessed
against Buch real property, excepting
street intersections which shall be
paid lor by the City as aforesaid; and
remonstrances against said proposed
improvements or luch assessments
may be made by non-resident abutting
property owners on said part of said
street, in writing and filed with the
l ity Reoorder of said City at any time
prior to said date of making such
assessment as aforesaid; and all res
ident abutting property owners may
appear at said time and place and
enter their remonstrances against said
proposed street improvements or said
assessments, personally, except those
who may be sick or unable to be
resent at said time and place by
eason of causes over which they have
to control, a 'id such persons only may
acn mane tneir remonstrance as
foresaid, in writing and file the same
with the said City Recorder at any
time prior to said date, and such re
monstrances, if any, will at said time
and place tie duly considered by the
said City Council.
