The grocer tells the story.
He

Whether he ate the pickle
or threw it away is not known, but
apparently he wished an excuse for
returning them and figured one out

cows are “ running their legs off” ev
ery time the town’s new fire whistle
sounds.

pockets’ Association” complain
ing that the persons from whom
they abstract pockethooks have
“the dishonest habit” of Invar

they have really suffered.
They cite specific cases where
ooe man claiming to have been
robbed of 2,500 lire only lost 80.
and another one reporting a loss
of 1,800 lire when his pockotbook
contained less than 200.
The letter argues that such ex
aggerations are likely to cause
unfortunate consequences and
strained relations among tha
pickpocket fraternity, as when a
member of the association (urns
in a few hundred lire when the
loser claims to have lost thou
sands, the pickpocket is suspect
ed by bis colleagues o f having
retained the difference.
“ Alleged honest people should
be more delicate,” the letter
ends.

business that he has been dubbed
“John the Serpent.” He wears heavy
boots and parries a hunting outfit con
sisting of scissors, a forked stick, a
knife and a handbag.

Seek John Calvin’s Grave.
The spot where John Calvin, the
Protestant reformer and theologian. Is
burled, In Geneva, Switzerland, Is be
ing sought by the authorities on infor
mation furnished by a man who says
he is a descendant of Calvin. The
location of the grave has been handed
down through the Calvin
family
under pledge of secrecy, according to
the man, who is seventy-one years of
age, nnd as he Is without Issue he be
lieved it his duty to divulge the lo
cation to the ecclesiastical consistory
at Geneva.
Tradition has It thHt John Calvin,
who died on May 27, 1564, was burled
“ In the common cemetery in Geneva
called “ Plaln-Palals,” but the exact
spot has not been Identified.
Birth Interests Medical Men.
A Berlin woman gave birth to two
healthy girls. Mother and babies were
doing well when a third girl was bom,
seven weeks later. According to the
latest reports the whole family are
doing well. The unusual side of the
ease Is that the third child Is alive and
doing well. Usually, a retarded birth
results In the death of the child.
Cases of twins born a short time after
each other are fairly common, but not

Engine Run by Sun Power.
A novel engine is operated by sun
power at Mead, near Cairo, Egypt. It
i consists of five 205-foot boilers placed

run for an hour yielded 1,442 pounds
