RULES AND REGULATIONS
1— Contest officiully opens next Monday m o m ln g , April 5; will extend over a period of seven
w eeks only—closing S aturday night, May 82nd.
2— Any reputuble m an, woman or child residin g in Independence, Polk County or vicinity is
eligible to enter this contest and compete for a prize. N om inations m ay be m ade at any
tim e during the contest.
3— No employe, or near relative of an employe of The Polk County Post is eligible to enter
this contest. The Polk County Post reserves th e right to reject any nom inations.
4— The w inners of the prizes will be decided b y ,th e ir accredited votes, said votes being repre­
sented by ballots issued on subscriptions and coupons clipped from the papers.
5— C andidates are not confined to th eir own p a rtic u la r tow n or com m unity in w hich to secure
votes an d subscriptions, but m ay take orders an y w h ere in the county; or, for th a t m atter,
anyw here in the state, or United States.
6— C ash m ust accom pany all orders where votes are desired. C andidates will be allowed to
collect back subscriptions and renew als as well as entirely new subscriptions, and votes will
be issued on all alike
7— Votes are free. It costs the subscribers n o th in g extra to vote for th e ir favorite. Votes m ust
be asked for at the tim e of paying subscription, otherw ise subscribers w aive this privilege.
Votes will not be issued on receipts covering past paym ents.
8— Votes cannot be purchased. Every cent accepted through the contest d epartm ent m ust
represent a subscription. Votes will not be issu ed on subscriptions for less th a n one year
nor for more th an five years in advance for a n y one candidate.

9— Votes are not transferable. C andidates ca n n o t w ithdraw in favor of an o th er candidate.
Should a candidate w ithdraw from the race h is or her votes will be cancelled. N either will
it be perm issible for candidates to give or tra n sfe r subscriptions to an o th er candidate. Votes
on such transferred subscriptions will be su b ject to disqualification a t the discretion of the
m an a g e m en t
10— Any collusion on the p a rt of candidates to nullify com petition, or any other com bination
formed to the detrim ent of candidates of this new spaper will not be tolerated.
Any can­
didate entering into or tuking p art in such com bination will forfeit all rig h t to a prize or
commission.
11— AH ballots issued on subscriptions m ay be held in reserve and voted at the discretion of
the candidates. The p rintd coupons ap p earin g from week to week m u st be deposited a t the
contest departm ent before the expiration date appearing thereon.
12— In the event of a tie for any one of the prizes, a prize identical in value will be given
each tying contestant, b u t does not au to m atically advance the succeeding candidates in
th e prize w inning class.
13— No statem ent or prom ise m ade by any solicitor, agent or candidate varying from the
rules and statem ent published through the colum ns of this new spaper will be recognized by
the publisher.
14— In case of typographical or other error it is understood th a j neith er the. publisher nor the
contest m anager shall be held responsible except to m ake the necessary correction upon
discovery of sume.
15— C andidates in this contest are authorized agents of The Polk County Post, and as such
m ay collect arrearag es an d advance su b scrip tio n paym ents from present subscribers as well
as from new subscribers.
16— it is distinctly understood a n d agreed th a t candidates will be responsible for all moneys
collected, and th a t they will rem it such a m o u n ts i„ full at frequent intervals, or on dem and,
to the Contest D epartm ent of The Polk County Post.
17— There will be SIX BIG PHIZES aw arded, besides a tw enty per cent cash commission to
all active non-prize-winners, but it is understood th a t in the event any candidate becomes
inactive, failing to m ake a reg u lar cash report, he or she will, a t the discretion of the m an ­
agem ent, become disqualified an d thereby forfeit all rights to a prize or commission.
18— To insure absolute fairness in the a w a rd in g of prizes, the race will be brought to a close
und er a sealed ballot box. D uring the entire last week of the contest the box—locked and
sealed—will repose in the v aults of u local b a n k where candidates and th eir friends m ay de­
posit th eir final collections and reserve votes. And, not u n til the contest has been declared
closed, will the seals be broken, the box unlocked, and, in the presence of the candidates and
all o th er interested parties, will the judges m a k e the final count. In this way no one—not
even the contest manager-—can possibly know the voting strength of the respective candi­
dates, which precludes any possibility of fav o ritism and insures fairness to the m inutest
degree.
19— The Polk County Post reserves the right to am end th e rules of this contest, if necessary,
for the protection of the interests of candidates or this new spaper.
20— The Polk County Post guaran tees fair and im partial treatm en t to all candidates, but
should an y question arise the decision of the m anagem ent will be absolute and final.
21— In accepting nom inations candidates agree to abide by the above conditions.
