Kenney, who has Just become president o f the Great Northern rail­ way. Louts W. H ill, chairman o f the board o f directors, will continue as active as heretofore In the management o f the railway system his father built. Selling newspapers was the start­ ing point o f Kenney’s career, back in the eighties. H e progressed step by step, later becoming a Western Union messenger boy. The clicking o f the telegraph instrument was a lure to him. H e mastered the key and became an operator. That opened the way fo r Ken­ ney’s railway career. He turned his attention to trafile und before he was forty became a recognized trafile au­ thority. In 1912 Kenney was made vice president and traffic manager of the Great Northern. He then came Into close executive association with James J. H ill and L. W. Hill, who had a high regard fo r the young man’s keen knowledge o f traffic affairs. From their youth up Louis W. H ill and W illiam Kenney have been closely associated In railroad affairs, first as clerks and later In management.
