Well how are you
We are feeling pretty good just now, had a good spring and summer trade, but then its a little
quiet just at present, couldn't expect anything else, all the farmers busy, working sixteen hours a day, and
other people at the coast eating clams, makes things quiet for store folks, but its all in a lifetime and we
are satisfied. Come in when you are in town, we are getting lots of new goods now, look them over and
see how you like our newly arranged store. Our prices are so low you' can't stumble over them.
STRAW
Don't sunburn yourself when we sell good
harvest hats for 5 cents each.
We also have a good line of Crash hats.
MEN'S SHOES
J mm)
We have placed 1130 pairs of ZL-iEoil'G'
iTG"W SllOCS on our shelves for
harvest trade.
We sell them for $1.00 to $5.00 a pair.

Most people will be of Hie opinion
th;H I he young lady in question did
exactly what was Tight, nid that she
was fortunate In discovering the dis

after marriage. Insensibility to the

marriage Is so close that happiness
can only exist where there Is mutual
forbearance, together with a certain
sensitiveness to tho feelings of olhers.
Tho man wlo docs not possess this

Tlio past week has been dry, ex
cept during, Wednesday local show
ors occurred in tho southern and
eastern sections of the state. Those
ruins were very beneficial to the
ranges and to root crops, but they
were not general enough to wholly
relievo tho droughty conditions pro
vailing in that section, and more
rain is still needed in all parts of
tlio state for Into crops Tlio week,
on tho whole, was slightly cooler
than the previous one, and gener
ally favorable for the ripening of
grain and fruit.
J liroslung is now in active pro
gress in all parts of tho state and
the yields are generally turning out
hotter than expected.
Hops arc a little backward, but
tho crop promises to bo an average
ono'in quantity and above tlio aver
age in quality. Tho lice aro doing
no damage and tlio only complaint
made is that tho soil is too dry for
rapid growth. Tlio potato crop is
being shortened somewhat by
drouth, but no injury litis go far
occurred through insect pests, and
with good raiiiH in tlio near future
tho potato crop will ho nearly an
average one. Corn shows slight
improvement, but instill backward.
Mango grass is getting poor and
stock continues to lose in floh.
Fruit of all kinds is making good
advancement, except that in ' Mar
ion and Benton comities tho Ital
ian prunes aro reported' to bo drop
ping more than usual. Apples life
doing nicely.

Haps,
The present splendid weather Is
making Oregon hop growers happy, as
It lias a most excellent effect on 1 1 1--growing
crops. The imps are burring
out rapidly ami ar- making very good
progress. If the present progress con
tinue.'), Hllh favorable weather condi
tions, growers generally will begin
picking about September 1st, a little
earlier than usual, as the crop Is ma
turing very rapidly.
U.vwhal. frw there urn In the Ore
gon yards, are decreasing and fast dis
appearing, and complaiiils of vermin
aixi very rare. The tender ends of
anus on the hop vines that were burnt
during tlie lew nt hot spell, may have
a slight tendency to shorten the hop
crop, but the result Is that llnuitreiigth
will go to the oilier hops, and may In
crease tlie siao of the burrs and the
quality of the hops produced.
( lit some of the yards tlie burrs' at
this time are uueipial in size, while
others j'tiii very regular, with large
huts, ta to Ji laches long and al
ready turning a rich yellow.
The Indications arc Hint pickers will
be plentiful lids year,' many leading
growers having already registered a
siiliieiint number for their needs. The
pelee, It. Is generally conceded, will be
10 icnls jk f box.
Tho ouilook for this year's price Is
fair, in fact good, though hops will
not go as high, dealers say, as was
believed some tune buck, but all be
lieve that It will be snltlciently high
to piy growers a good prollt on their
Investment and for their labor.
