This atntement does not agree with
those of cye-wltnesrau who doelaro
tliat tho conductor went nhoad to oiwn

from tho draw, and motioned for the
car to como ahead. Ortnln it Is that
tho conductor mounted the car again

Itallway officials wiy they are un
able to give the naiww of the conduc

of tho car. The police are looking
for tho niotorman. Tho exact number
of passengers In tlio car will not bo
known until all bodies are recovered.
Tho faro register showed that twen
ty-live fares had lieen collected. There
may have been other passengers with
transfers which would not have been
rung up or registered. Probably, how
ever, ninny of theso fares were regis
tered and left tho car Perore tne
bridge was reached. As near as can
bo learned, there were at least flftmi
and possibly twenty persons in the
oar when It made tho plunge.
Seven unidentified bodies are at tlio
morgues now, and ono man, whoso
name has not yet been learned, Is at

So far as can be learned ho Is the only

HOP INTELLIGENCE.
Reports from different sections of
New York state indicate less business
than last week, "but a generally steady
holding, especially of the finest grades.
Sales have been at (ViilOe, but the lat
ter rate was exceptional and reached,
only for an occasional growth of un
unially choice quality. From the Ta
elilo coast tlio advices are rather
weaker; strictly choice growths have
been mostly selected out and it would
seem that the lower quotations aro
based upon next grades. A good deal
of stock Is still going abroad on direct
shipments from the coast. English
buyers are not much Interested, here,
and yet there is reason to believe tliat
samples of strictly choice shipping
grades would attract some orders. On
tlio local market business Is generally
quiet, but the situation Is essentially
tlio santo as previously reported. We
note somo inquiry for very high grade
prime to choice Pacifies at OSflOc, and
as these are not plenty, there Is rather
a conlltlont holding. Choice New York
Btato shipping hops are not offering to
any extent, and some lino brewing
stock has sold at S'jtrtOc, with lower
grades downward. Brewers are not
calling for many old hops, but the
