profits into extending its lines. It will
not be long before It will have
monopoly so strong that nothing can
oppose it and the jieople tie at its mercy
We should think of Untie things and

There are some enthusiastic workers
at the back of the project for a large
building In which to hold the crowd to
assemble here next year, and we under
stood they are meeting w ith much in
couragemeut. This Is very much to
the credit of the people of Indepen
dence, The West Hiik is iu favor of
such a building, but still we do not
favor it being built for any other pur
pose than that of holding large crowds.
In order to come up to our standard il
should have a seating capacity of at
least 3000 people. It should not he
built as a private speculation or to run
any opposition to our opera house, or
other public buildings. In order to
accomplish this particular purpose it is
necessary that the building shall I so
large that it may only tie used for sued)
gatherings as shall draw great crowds,
as political meetings, graduating exer
, cises, fairs, etc. Theaters, church
sociables, etc., should putronizc our
established public theater. As to loca
tiou. It should not be on Main street
on account of the lire risk, and It
should not be more than a few blocks
from the business center of town. In
the city park is a good place provided
It is not too far off. It bus the advan
tage of being land, which can be had
for nothing and the building would be
in control ol the city, which it should
be.
The man or men, who build and con
duct enterprises in Independence,
which give employment to labor are
deserving of all the support and assis
tance, that can be given them. In
dustry keeps up the town and enter
prise is to industry, what capital is to
labor. Not only should encourage'
ment be given home enterprise for
their own sake, but because their suc
cess means more to follow. Help along
that soap factory.
