the statement without mentioning any
names, and the public would feel more
inclined to assist if the details were
made known. We offer this suggestion
to the stockholders of the Fair Associa
tion, believing that if action is taken it
will result in a revival of interest iu
this very laudable enterprise which
should not be allowed to lag. We

pendence which will exert itself if it

If the people of Independence really
want a railroad built which will be of
some material value to the town, and
that in a direct manner, they should
inaugurate a system of feeders to the
town and not away from It. If a rail
road Is to be built with the capital of
our people, it should be out into the
country tributary to us.
There is a fine section of country
only a few miles south-west from Inde
pendence which Is, on account of re
moteness from market comparatively
unsettled and isolated. We refer to the
lands In and about Kings Valley.
The building of such a road would
offer so many advantages to our mer
chants that the proposition wonld not
need to be argued to make plain its ad
Vantage. The farmers living along the
Spring will he very gratefully receiv
ed this year, not only because the
people will be glad to see the last of
this awful winter, but because It will
end the democratic congress.
