at the motor depot where they met pioneers,
a large delegation from Indepen
dence ; headed by the band, fol
lowed by citizens on foot with ban
ners and the speaker bringing np
the rear in a carriage, the proces
sion marched to Monmouth evenue
thence to Main street and from
there to the east side of the bank
building. The Dallas quartette
first sang a song descriptive of
democratic times which was greeted
with loud applause, this was fol
lowed with a selection wishing for
the 'good old republican times,'
which was heartily received. Hon.
J. H. Hawley introduced McCara
ant, who made one of the most
convincing arguments in favor of
republican principles that has been
listened to during this campaign.
, republicans were encouraged, dem
osrats, some of them, were con
viaced of th error of their ways,
but populists don't know enough,
or refuse to be convinced. The ex
ercises commenced in the open air,
but the storm rendered it necessary
to adjourn to the opera honse where
for one honr and a half be held the
audience spellbound with his elo
quence and convincing argument.
The programme closed with a selec
tion by both the Dallas and Mon
mouth quartettes, both of which
associates.
