The students who attended the state collegiate oratorical contest at Eugene returned Saturday, after a pleasant visit. Willamette Uni versity was so fortunate as to se cure the honors through their rep resentative. Col. O. a Applegate of South ern Oregon, gave the studouts an instructive address Tuesday morn ing. Colonel Applegate is very prominently spoken of as candi date for secretary of state on the republican ticket. F. Anstine has sold his confec tionery store to W. II. Wheeler formerly of Independence. Mr. Wheeler moved here and took charge this week. We understand Mr. Anstine will go to MeMinn ville and engage in business. Elder J. N. Smith has been en gaged for the ensuing year at the Christian church. He has done good work here. He will talk on the following subjects next Sunday: In the morning, "The World Wide Commission," evening, "Unbelief, Causes and Cure." - Euthitslastic Mi'i'tliitf. one the farthest away was given the '"booby" prize; Miss Clara Hall received tho first prize, and Mrs. W.J.
