W. C. T. U. Gleams.
Whosoever believeth in him shall re-
ceive remission of sins.—Acts 10:43.
The gospel is for the whole world.
Who is going to give up when on the
bosom of God he can have all his
troubles hushed?—Talmage.
Phillips Brooks speaks of certain pas
sages of Scripture which are forever
robbed of some of their sweetness bv
flippant jokes or puns upon them, which
having once heard, one can never forget.
Higher, my soul! diigher ! In bodily
buildings, commonly the garrets are
most empty, but my mind, the higher
mounted, will be the better furnished.
Let perseverance unto death be my up
permost chamber, the roof of which
grace is the pavement of glory.—Thos.
Fuller.
A converted pugilist, now a successful
evangelist in London, was heard to say,
in a very kindly way, to a young man
who was smoking on the deck of a Med
iterranean steamer: “Before I was con
verted I used to enjoy my pipe. But
when God saved me, he taught me that
he wanted me to be every bit clean.”—
Christian Herald.
Q. Is it in accordance with the prin
ciples of the union to tie the white rib
bon on men or women who just sign the
pledge, but do not join the organization?
A. The knot of white ribbon is the
distinctive badge of the W. C. T. U. and
properly indicates paid up membership
in that organization. Honorary mem
bers are entitled to wear the white rib
bon if they so wish to do.—Union Signal.
