Gillette, W. J. Schmidt, C. H. Vaupel. Absent: W. B. Million. The minutes of the Council meetings held during October read and approved. Monthly rejiorts of city officers read and filed. The petition of J. A. Gross for saloon license for depot hotel was presented, with l>ond and affidavit of posting the proper notices. The petition was can vassed by the Council and found to con tain the requisite number of names of legal voters, and, on motion of C. H. Gillette, seconded by D. F. Fox, the bond was approved and accepted, and license ordered issued to J. A. Gross for one year. On motion of W. J. Schmidt, seconded by C. II. Gillette, the city marshal was instructed to enforce the ordinances pro hibiting minors from loitering in saloons and against gambling. The following bills having l>een ap proved by the finance committee, on motion of D. F. W illiam M c K inley . Sherwin’s Educational iledals. i Something of especial interest to thoce interested along educational lines will be found in the information that Eu gene A. Sherwin, our enterprising drug gist and stationer, has placed on exhibition in his show window, two handsome, engraved silver medals in neat plush cases, the same to be award ed to the valedictorians of the Ashland State Normal and the Ashland High School. They are engraved as follows: “The Eugene A. Sherwin Educational Medal. State Normal, Ashland, Ore gon,” “The Eugene E. Sherwin Educa tional Medal. High School, Ashland, Oregon.” The reverse sides are blank, for engraving the winners’ names, etc. The medals are really beautiful, and worth any student’s best efforts. Call around and take a look at them. f.'oney in Farming. It is a notable fact that all farming in terests improve where it is possible to utilize the water that the wells on the place will produce. How few people think of the value of water for irriga tion, and what could be produced at minimum cost if it were used. The question has been heretofore how to get the water to the surface e onomically, and this has been accomplished by the use of Gasoline or Kerosene Oil Gas En- gine manufactured by Palmer & Rey Type Foundry, 405 Sansome street, San Francisco, California.
