yesterday.
—Arthur Hart left for Lompoc, Cal.,

—Cornelius Inlow left last Saturday
for Applegate, where he will reside.
—Burton L. Cunningham, of Fort
Klamath, came over to Ashland last Fri­
day.
—Mrs. P. M. Arinburst left for Seattle
on last Friday’s train. She will remain
there.
—Mr. and Mrs. H. Williams went to
Jacksonville last Saturday, returning
Monday.
—Mrs. Robt. Beswick and daughter
returned home from Yreka on Monday
evening’s train.
—J. A. McCall, F. M. Carter, and
Miss Lyle Watson went down to Gold
Hill last Saturday evening.
—Walter Parsons left on this morn­
ing’s train for Lompoc, California, to
reside with his grandmother. ,
—James Sayles returned Monday eve­
ning from Yreka, where he has been
working in the New Clarendon hotel.
—Carrol I'ratt was taken ill last Sun­
day, and for a ccuple of days his condi­
tion was critical, but he is now out of
danger.
— Roy L. McIntire,of Worchester, this
state, arrived in Ashland last Saturday,
to make his home with his grand-
parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. M. McIntire.
—Miss Net ie Tharp, one of the grad­
uates of the Klamath Falls public
schools, has entered the State Normal at
Ashland.—Klamath Republican.
—Frank Pierce and Wm. Morgan, of
Brownsville, asrived in Ashland last
Saturday, and have taken up permanent
residence in the Galey property in the
southeastern part of town.
—Miss Rosa Dodge, of this place, who
has been teaching the Phoenix public
school for the past few weeks, returned
home last Friday evening to remain.
Miss Titus has recovered from a recent
illness and takes the school.

recovery is doubtful.
Mrs. Parks is improving under the
proficient care of Dr . Hinkle.
John Peninger, who has lately been
pardoned, is seen upon our streets again.
Mrs. Sulivan, who is lieing treated for
cancer, is improving, we are pleased to
learn.
M rs. A. A. Whiteman and Miss Mary
Jacobs made a business trip to Medford
Monday.
N. A. Jacobs, of Medford, made a trip
home on Friday, to see his family, re­
turning Monday.
Mr. Newton, manager of the Ashland
Normal boarding hall, is in town, the
guest of his son Bert.
Mrs. Spears, of Woodville, who has
been stopping for several weeks with
her son-in-law’, Mr. A. A. Whiteman,
was the guest of A. S. Jacobs and family
Monday.
A. A. Whiteman has sold out his
blacksmith shop to Walter Damon, Hef-
fiing, and Sherman, who will continue
the business. Walter Damon was an
employe of Mr. Whiteman.
He was an earnest minister who, one
Sunday in the course of a sermon on the
significance of little things, said : “The
hand which made the mighty Heavens
made a grain of sand : which made the
lofty mountains made a drop of water;
which made you made the grass of the
field, which made me made me made a
daisy.”
According to the newspaper reports,
Bryan has already delivered addresses to
225,(KM),000 people—over three times the
entire population of our nation.

letic association with 33 members was
organized here last Saturday evening.
Our football team will go into training at
once. We have some fine “material,”
and intend to carry off the laurels of the
entire valley this season.
C hicago , Oct. 17.—Heavy wet snow’
fell in Chicago about two hours today.
This breaks all records, the nearest to it
being the storm of October 20, last year.

The “Book Social” in Granite hall last
Friday evening, Ashland Library benefit,
was a satisfactory success. The net pro­
ceeds were about $30.
