The fourth annual Southern Oregon Chautauqua Assembly will be held in Ashland July 8-17, inclusive. While previous Assemblies have been grand successes, this one promises to be even more so. Great preparations are lieing made for the celebration of the Fourth, next Saturday, and the celebration will be the grandest ever held in Southern Ore­ gon. Nearly all the lodges, societies, etc., are at work arranging floats for the morning parade. Almost every available conveyance from down the valley has been secured by the people in that section to come to Ashland, and an immense crowd will be the result. A Large Merry-go-round. Wade, Walker Smith, of California, are in Ashland, opposite Ganiard’s opera house, with their large, fifty-feet, steam- power merry-go-round. This swing is the largest and liest that has ever visited our city, and will add materially to the attractions of the celebration July 4. The machine has twenty-four hobby­ horses and four carriages, ordinarily BANG! Fourth of July ANGI is coming, and Fire Crackers delight Young America. A party of Ashland people left Ashland last Thursday morning for the summit of Grizzly Peak, returning home in the evening. There were nineteen who made the trip, and among them was lit­ tle Beatrice Jacobs, who is credited with having climbed to the top as easily as some of her older companions.
