A great Republican landslide. The
moat contention was manifested over
the marshalship. C. P. Jones, without
the use of a drop of liquor or the pur­
chase of a vote, despite the trickery of
his enemies, gained a victory of over
two to one over his rival, whose “life
lean? on the marshalship” seems to have
most inglorioutdv expired.
