'state fair proves
TO BE GREAT SUCCESS
SA1.K.M, Or., Sept. 20 -While the
work of checking up the receipts of
he Oregon state fair for thi year is
lot vet completed, it lias progressed;
so far that the member of the board
are able to snv that the tital will ex-
ed $20,(100. This is divided as fol-
ows:
Monday, $00(1; Tuesday, $1300;
Wednesday. $.VJ)0; Thursday, $i.)00;
Friday. $4(100; Saturday, $2000; to
tal. $21,200.
This sum includes the money de
sired from admissions to the grand
stand, but does not include the rev
enue from concessions, exhibits and
various other sources.
The total receipts last year were
tipiiroxitmitely $23,(100.
There is no way f accurately as
certaining the attendance, as no tick
ets are issued for cash admissions at
the gate or grandstand, and the ad
mission of children at half price com
plicates the work of forming n close
estimate of the attendance.
MONARCH ORE SAMPLES
PROVE MOST RICH
J. II. Hay last week received re
urns from some samples of ore tak
en from the Monarch mine in Pal
mer Creek district, says the News.
which he had sent to the Coram
smelter for n smelter test to ascer
tain the values under smelting con
ditions, and the returns showed i?47."
to the ton.
The samples were selected from
.... ,
nil parts ol uie leuge, ami was u
onsidcred the richest of it.
Thev have about 20 tons of good
ore on the dumps and the pay chute
in one of the tunnels which they are
driving is nearly two feet Their
work is mostly prospeet work so far,
and it hns proved by the returns from
Coram that the Monarch is likely to
prove n winner.
