An interslnle fair, to ineluilo the
counties of Khnmitli, Luke. Jackson.
Josephine, Malheur nnd Harney in
this state, and the counties of Siski
you nnd Modoc in California, is fa
vored here by n number and an ef
fort may be made to put the project
through.
This border country is now on the
eve of gigantic delevopment. In this
section the 'great reclamation and ir
rigation work of the fedoral govern
ment yill cost nearly $5,000,000. if
parried out along the original lines,
is now under way, and is attracting
attention nnd bringing in people from
all over the Uuion.
In the T.akeview section; tho Ore
gon Valley Land Company is develop
ing a great acreage, and in n week
cr two 4,000 people are expected to
take up land already sold.
In Modoc, a portion of which coun
ty and also a portion of Siskiyou, are
affected by the government's big
project here, there are a number of
irrigation projects under way and
contemplated.
In Siskiyou. Hutte Valley is sure
some day in the near future to have
water, while a project is now being
formed to irrigate Shasta valley.
, In addition to the reclamation and
irrigation projects in this vast region
railroad enterprises are quite numer
ous. The Southern Pacific is very
active, and undoubtedly soon will
have the jiroposed Goose Lake &
Southern from Lakcview, Oregon, to
Vina, in the Sacramento valley, Cal
ifornia, under construction. The
Nevada -California and Oregon, out
of Reno to Altnras. is also planning
to etxend to Lakeview and perhaps
further. Beyond this there re ru
mors of other etuerprises, bncked
ly Hill nnd ILirrimnn.
In this immediate section, the Cal
ifornia Northeastern, the Southern
Pacific's branch from Weed, Cali
fornia, on the present main line to
Klamath Falls, is being extended and ;
eventually will again strike the main
'ine now in use at Kiigeije. When
that occurs, however, this route will
be made the main line from San
Francisco to Portland. Because of
this development.' actual and pro
posed, it is felt here by many that
.in interstate fair would be just about
ihe right thing to signalize tox the
world what is going on in this vast
.region, and thus serve to further ad
vertise our resources and rapid de
velopment. G0MPERS WANTS
